Velvet-Leaf Philodendron
Philodendron Scandens 'Micans'
In the tropical forests of Central and South America, this plant climbs up trees to catch the light without sitting directly in the sun. With its heart-shaped, velvety leaves that shimmer in shades of bronze and green like polished copper, it trails elegantly down or climbs upward, so long as you give it a pole to hold on to.
Growth: Moderate to fast, about 20–50 centimeters per year. Propagate easily through cuttings in water or soil.
Fun Facts: The Dark Velvet Philodendron rarely blooms indoors, but it filters toxins from the air. Perfect for offices.
Toxicity: Mildly toxic. Contains calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause mouth irritation, swelling, vomiting, and drooling if ingested. Harmful to pets (especially cats and dogs) and children. Hang your Dark Velvet Philodendron high before things end badly.
